OPINION: SUTV just doesn’t add up

Monday, March 22nd, 2010

Thirty thousand pounds. What would that mean to you? You could certainly do a lot of good with it. But the £30,000 I’m referring to is the ridiculous sum Queen’s Students’ Union propose spending on SUTV.

COMMENT: Final year blues

Monday, March 22nd, 2010

For me, entering final year was something that I would have dreaded adamantly back in fresher year when every worry that surrounds me now was a million miles away.  Days of skipping class, watching DVD marathons and socialising at every possible opportunity were just some of the activities that consumed the life of a carefree humanities student.

COLUMN: Clarissa Long explains it all

Friday, March 19th, 2010

It’s almost been seven weeks now since I arrived in Ireland, almost 6 weeks since I got to Queen’s, and it has taken me that long to actually get myself over to St. George’s Market. When I arrived in Belfast, we had a quick International Students’ tour which passed by St. George’s Market and were told about the amazing produce and other products that appear there on Fridays and Saturdays. I immediately thought of farmers’ markets in the US.

NEWS: Night brings more disorder to Holylands

Wednesday, March 17th, 2010

Disorderly behaviour escalated tonight in the Holylands as hundreds of revellers took part in a “street rave” on Palestine Street. Police and University officials looked on helplessly as young people sang and danced along with music blaring from one of the houses. It has been alleged that the house in question was not a student house.

NEWS: Early evening sees Holylands disturbance escalate

Wednesday, March 17th, 2010

From approximately 5pm, the Holylands became rowdier, with the alcohol intake inevitably taking effect. Crowds of revellers gathered outside houses on Rugby Avenue, Agincourt Avenue, Carmel Street, Jerusalem Street and Palestine Street, with Rugby Avenue arguably the worst. Young people took to the middle of Rugby Avenue for a rendition of ‘Rock the Boat’, which then turned into the Irish national anthem. One young man mooned in the middle of the street before being unsuccessfully chased by a police officer.
