NEWS BRIEF: No seats for politics students

The first year Perspective on Politics class is over subscribed to the point of too many students and not enough places. By places, I mean seats. The Physics Emeleus Lecture Theatre holds enough seats for 6 less pupils that are attending the classes.

REVIEW: Couple’s Retreat

Four couples travel to a paradise resort in a bid to rekindle the sparks in their respective relationships….

As tantalising as this may sound, and as funny as the trailer may appear, I warn you not to be fooled. Upon seeing couples retreat, what irritated me the most (in a film consisting mostly of irritating moments) was the sheer rampant egotism of the writers/stars Vaughan and Faverau.

ARTS: The Godfather returns to the QFT

Family, honour, betrayal, corruption, love and loss.

These are just a few of the many challenging themes running through Francis Ford Coppola’s outstanding adaption of Mario Puzo’s classic novel. The Godfather has been proclaimed by critics and movie goers alike to be the greatest film ever made. And now 37 years after its initial release, this popularity shows no sign of waning.

NEWS: Queen’s crowned Entrepreneurial University of 2009

Queen’s University was awarded the top prize at the annual ceremony held in Grosvenor House, London. Paul Hannon presented the prestigious award to Professor Gerry McCormac Pro-Vice Chancellor for Planning and External Relations at Queen’s.

OPINION: Racism and Roses

It was with unreserved disgust that on Saturday the 17th October, I witnessed a doorman at a club in Belfast taunt an elderly woman by taking her belongings and giving them to other people. The incident would, under normal circumstances prompt a phone call to the police, but such is the nature of racism within our society, that the dispossession of plastic roses from an elderly Roma rose seller went largely unnoticed by the nearby crowd.

NEWS: Drunken noise and vandalism escalates in the Holylands

Thursday, October 15th, 2009

Residents in the Holylands area awoke to the noise of “drunk students” last night, and discovered them in the process of vandalizing young trees outside their property.

Update: All  students from one particular street will face a  “mock disciplinary” to curtail problems in the area, in which they will be further educated on their responsibilities while living in a residential area.

ARTS: Pete Doherty postponed
