OPINION: Mistakes made, lessons learned? I don’t think so.

On 20th March 2010, Pope Benedict XVI issued a letter of apology to Irish Catholics in order to atone for the many decades of sexual abuse of minors by Irish priests. However, it appears that the letter has been largely unsuccessful in quelling public anger towards the Catholic Church in Ireland.

ARTS: Belfast Operatic Company’s Beauty and the Beast

Belfast Operatic Company (BOC) put on magnificent performances every year at the Grand Opera House in Belfast. With a Stranmillis graduate, Alice Johnston, in the starring role of Belle, this production of Beauty and the Beast showcased real talent from the various departments at Queen’s and was a real treat to watch.

REVIEW: I love you Phillip Morris

Jim Carey and Ewan McGregor are a match that wouldn’t normally be pieced together.  Carey is generally only found in comedies (or trippy films like Eternal Sunshine) and McGregor is genre-defying. What ‘I Love You Phillip Morris’ was about was only really revealed after paying into the cinema.

NEWS: Redpath collaborates with Adams in response to Moloney’s book

Alex Redpath, a Unionist and unsuccessful candidate on the law-GAA ticket in the recent student election, has confirmed today that he is assisting Gerry Adams with his new book. Adams is determined to prove, once and for all, that he has never been a member of the IRA and he believes Redpath is the man to help him.

NEWS: Brogan to Gregson – “A f**king line is being drawn here!”

SU President Shane Brogan has declared a ballot for immediate student strike action, citing funding cuts, ludicrous high-end expenses payouts to QUB bosses, coupled with persistent Russell Group deviousness over the cap on fees. Although strike action is forbidden in the Union’s constitution, Brogan told The Gown, “I just don’t give a shit anymore.”
