NEWS: The Gown suspended from office as of 5pm today
The Gown team have been suspended from our office as of 5pm today. We are still awaiting a response from Union Management following a detailed letter we sent requesting a concise explanation for this suspension.

Ah you see the purges they begin already!
First it is the independent media leaving only that controlled by The Party.
Then the former enemy are relocated away from the heart of the new regime so as not to influence the peasants with their high ideals.
Then when none dare oppose you, you make them disappear quietly and remove all trace of their existence.
Truly comrades Duffy and Lilly know now to oppress the masses with a smile on their faces!
This is quite funny really, they feel threatened by an 8 page newspaper. Pity they couldn’t kick out SU mag instead.
Clearly SU Management and VPs couldn’t care less about the student journalism culture or the value of the Gown which has been running since 1955! It really is pathetic!
These people are clearly looking out for themselves and not the students who they apparently work for… particularly those who are interested in the different aspects of the media!
After the disgraceful piece which ran gloating about the death of the guy who was tortured by thug students in the Holy Lands, you’ll find very little pity outside your own clique.

Typical of the current SU administration to be afraid of one of the last things that actually tries to represent student voices’ here at QUB.
They’ll be rolling out the Stasi soon.
I quite agree, does anyone know if this is the student officers, the staff or both? And whoever it is, who exactly do they think they are? This is the slippery slope to fascist control.
The Gown is pretty controversial at times but to be banned from their offices is a bit over the top. What are they saying you’ve done now?
Think declan might be talking about Pauly, the resident who allegedly burnt out the cars on jerusalem street 2 years ago. Strange to bring it up now. I would hardly call the article “gloating” either. With regards to the Gown being banned from the union, pretty ridiculous decision all round. May as well paint ‘down with free speech’ on their windows.

Go figure…….Now i know why QUB do not offer Journalism as a subject as it would only allow people to write from the inside, out. QUB is going down in my estimations, which I am sure they couldnt care they got their fees, however what they are forgetting is that in their steving to attain russell group top sttatus, they are killing the heart and soul of Belfasts talent in writing and non vocational subjects. Just as McGourty pointed out which was a very valid point, Usain Bolt? I rest my case. There are plenty of students who deserve greater recognition. But like the graduation speech i heard this year from his ‘excellency’ GLOBALISATION is key to QUB sustaining its success. QUB the marketing whore of the russell group. The students on the ground make QUB what it and they fail to recognise it.
When I read the notification of the ban in the last issue I thought that the gown had just been asked not to disclose the reasons behind at the time. Pending further investigation sort of thing.
BUT THEY DIDNT EVEN TELL YOU WHY?
That is an outrage. When you guys at the Gown get reinstated, which you will, because the students will make it so, then please publish the details of the ban. Who it came from. Who supported etc. Its very important.

I thought they were having a early april fool’s joke when they said about Ussain Bolt. What on earth has he got to do with Queen’s? Queen’s don’t even offer any sports degrees!
I’ve only been away from QUB for 7 months in America and so much has changed! This is pretty ridiculous in my opinion. The Students’ Union is a complete shambles and The Gown is the only independent source at QUB that is there for students.
I’m sure The Gown will be reinstated soon enough, and once it is, I hope they tear the SU to pieces because it’s completely corrupt.
