FEATURE: Money+ set up to help your finances

Students at Queen’s and in secondary schools across Northern Ireland are set to become more money-wise with the advent of a new initiative from Queen’s SU and Barclays Bank. Run by Queen’s students who have experienced debt themselves, the aim of the scheme is to help and advise students on managing their finances and budgeting according to their means.

Students who volunteer to help run the programme will also receive credit towards their Degree Plus Award, which is run by Queen’s to ensure that students are able to expand on their CVs and receive university approved recognition for their volunteer work.

Adrian Doran, Head of Northern Ireland, Barclays Commercial Bank says, “In this economic climate it is more important than ever that our young people are able to identify the benefits, responsibilities and risks of budgeting, borrowing and spending money. Barclays’ support of the Money+ programme is at a time when young people need to be confident in the way they manage their money. The skills and habits we learn at a young age are what many people use for the rest of their lives.”

For more information about Money+, and advice on budgeting for school goers, university students and graduates, visit the scheme’s website, at www.moneyplusni.com. There is a wealth of links and resources to help get you out of debt, or manage your money better.
