REVIEW: Boogie Nights in the Opera House
With ‘Boogie Nights’, Ulster Operatic Company’s latest production at the Grand Opera House, you get what you expect from this loving tribute to musical genius of the 70s.
BY BRIAN SWANN
Telling the story of Roddy (Mark Adamson) who dreams of becoming a rock star and his romance with girlfriend Debs (Annika Graham), the play follows their story as they discover what they are searching for, right up to its happy ending.
There isn’t much to the plot and the characters are generic, but it’s the actors who help bring life to the performances, making this theatre experience worthwhile. Mark Adamson gives a confident and charming portrayal of Roddy whilst Annika Graham brings warmth and class to the character of Debs. The entire company should be proud of themselves for producing a piece of near-professional musical theatre.
